“The Best Marriage I Know” Student Essay Contest

Auburn, AL., November 8, 2007 –

The Alabama Community Healthy Marriage Initiative (ACHMI) will be holding a student essay contest for eighth graders across the state of Alabama. Students are asked to write a 1-2 page essay about a couple he or she knows who have a great marriage. ACHMI wants to know who the couple is, what makes their marriage great, and what the student has learned from them.

ACHMI will select winners from each Alabama congressional district. The student winners will win $100, teachers of winners will win a $50 gift certificate, and the couple the student writes about will receive a $50 gift card to dinner.

Winners, teachers, and couples will also be invited to attend a special celebration of marriage at the Governor's mansion, hosted by Governor Bob Riley and Mrs. Patsy Riley, on February 17, 2007 during Alabama Healthy Marriage Month.

The Alabama Community Healthy Marriage Initiative is a partnership among the Human Development and Family Studies department at Auburn University, The Children’s Trust Fund, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, various state agencies, and family resource centers across the state dedicated to developing healthy families and relationships throughout Alabama.
